Pedometer / Step Counter
Counts steps using your phone's motion sensor — no GPS, works indoors, walks with you in your pocket.
How it works
Every step you take creates a small spike in acceleration as your foot strikes the ground. This tool watches your phone's accelerometer for spikes that rise above a rolling baseline, and counts one each time it sees a clear peak followed by a return to baseline — with a short cooldown so a single step doesn't get counted twice. If it's over- or under-counting, adjust the sensitivity slider: lower catches lighter steps, higher ignores more background jostling.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is a browser-based step counter?
It's a reasonable estimate, not medical-grade. Accuracy depends on where you carry the phone, your walking style, and the sensitivity setting.
Does this need GPS or location access?
No — only the accelerometer, so it works indoors and anywhere GPS is unavailable.
Where should I keep my phone for the best count?
A pocket or a steady hand works best. Loose swinging in a hand or bag can cause extra false counts.
