Voice commands

Say these out loud while dictating and they'll be inserted as punctuation instead of text: period, comma, question mark, exclamation mark, new line, new paragraph.

How it works

This uses your browser's built-in speech recognition to transcribe what you say into the text box in real time. Recognition restarts automatically if it times out from a pause, so you can dictate for as long as you need without re-clicking start.

Frequently asked questions

Is my voice recording sent to a server?

Browser speech recognition typically processes audio via the browser vendor's cloud service to produce text, then returns only the text to this page — the raw audio isn't stored by this tool.

Can I say punctuation out loud?

Yes — words like "period", "comma", "question mark", and "new line" get converted into the matching punctuation or line break.

Which browsers support voice typing?

Chrome and Edge on desktop and Android. Safari and Firefox don't support the Web Speech API's recognition feature.
