How to test your controller
Looking for a quick way to test your controller? Use this free gamepad tester directly in your browser.
- Connect your controller with USB, or pair it wirelessly.
- Open this page in a browser that supports the Gamepad API.
- Press any controller button to wake the gamepad.
- Move both analog sticks and squeeze the triggers.
- Watch the inputs update live on screen.
What can this controller tester check?
The tester reads inputs exposed by your controller through the browser's Gamepad API. Depending on the controller and browser, you can check face buttons, shoulder buttons, D-pad inputs, analog sticks, triggers, and other available controls.
Test for stuck or unresponsive buttons
Press each button individually and confirm that its indicator activates. A button that does not respond consistently may need further testing, cleaning, repair, or replacement.
Test controller drift
Leave the analog sticks untouched and watch their live position. Ideally, an idle stick should remain close to center. If the indicator continually moves while you are not touching the stick, your controller may have analog stick drift.
Browser and controller limitations
This tool depends on the browser's Gamepad API and the controller mapping exposed by your operating system. Button numbering and mappings can vary. Some controllers, browsers, connection modes, mobile devices, or privacy settings may expose fewer inputs or no gamepad at all. This page cannot diagnose hardware faults with certainty.
