GPA calculator
Enter your classes, grades and credits. Supports letter or percentage grades, AP/IB/Honors weighting, multiple semesters, and cumulative GPA.
| Course | Grade | Credits | Weight |

Letter↔points mapping (unweighted): A=4.0, A−=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3.0, B−=2.7, C+=2.3, C=2.0, C−=1.7, D+=1.3, D=1.0, F=0. AP/IB add 1.0, Honors adds 0.5 on the weighted scale. Percentage cutoffs use the standard 10-point bands with A− from 90.
How the calculation works
GPA is a credit-weighted average: each course contributes grade points × credits. A 4-credit A (4.0) contributes 16 points; a 2-credit B (3.0) contributes 6. Divide total points by total credits and you have your GPA. With equal credits, it is a simple average of grade points.
Standard unweighted scale
| Letter | Percentage | Points |
|---|---|---|
| A | 93–100 | 4.0 |
| A− | 90–92 | 3.7 |
| B+ | 87–89 | 3.3 |
| B | 83–86 | 3.0 |
| B− | 80–82 | 2.7 |
| C+ | 77–79 | 2.3 |
| C | 73–76 | 2.0 |
| C− | 70–72 | 1.7 |
| D+ | 67–69 | 1.3 |
| D | 60–66 | 1.0 |
| F | below 60 | 0.0 |
Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?
GPA is the average of your grade points across courses. Each letter grade maps to a point value (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on). Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add them up, and divide by the total credit hours. Without credits, every class counts equally.
What is a weighted GPA?
A weighted GPA adds extra points for harder courses, typically +1.0 for AP or IB classes and +0.5 for Honors. So an A in an AP class is worth 5.0 instead of 4.0. Weighted GPAs can exceed 4.0; unweighted GPAs cannot.
Is a 3.5 GPA good?
A 3.5 unweighted GPA is a strong average — it sits between an A- and B+ average and clears the bar at most colleges. For very selective universities, a 3.8+ with rigorous coursework is more typical.
Do colleges look at weighted or unweighted GPA?
Most colleges recalculate your GPA in their own way, but they consider both. The unweighted GPA shows raw performance; the weighted GPA shows how challenging your course load was. Taking harder courses usually helps even when it lowers the unweighted number.
