Salary inflation calculator
Year-by-year purchasing power
This shows what the original salary is worth in each year if it never receives a raise. The final column shows the salary that would have preserved purchasing power each year.
Inflation impact
The bars show how the cost of the same basket of goods and services changed relative to the year you entered.
How the calculation works
The calculator uses official all-items CPI data. For Canada, the source is Statistics Canada. For the US, it uses the BLS CPI-U, U.S. city average. The 2026 comparison uses the latest available July 2026 index rather than pretending that a full 2026 annual average already exists.
Frequently asked questions
How is the inflation-adjusted salary calculated?
Inflation-adjusted salary = original salary x (target CPI / starting-year CPI). For Canada we use the Statistics Canada all-items CPI annual average; for the US we use the BLS CPI-U, U.S. city average. The 2026 comparison uses the latest July 2026 index, not a full-year average that does not yet exist.
Which countries are supported?
Canada (CAD, Statistics Canada CPI) and the United States (USD, BLS CPI-U) from 2000 through the latest available 2026 index.
Does the calculator store or upload my salary?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, saved, or tracked.
Is this the same as a cost-of-living or tax calculator?
No. It only adjusts a salary for headline CPI inflation. It does not include taxes, regional cost-of-living differences, or your personal spending basket. For Canadian tax math, see the Canada Tax Calculator.
